Where the numbers
come from.
Every reading comes from a named public data source. Here’s who publishes it, which geography it covers, how often it refreshes, and what to know before comparing it.

Useful comparisons, honest caveats.
These are published price observations, not a personalized budget or a cost-of-living forecast. Series can differ in geographic coverage, units, cadence, and adjustment method; compare like with like.
- 01Each location shows the most local series with data: metro, then census region, then national. The geography label tells you which.
- 02Percent change compares the selected series with its first available observation in the chosen window.
- 03The October 2025 observation gap is labeled “No data / October 2025.” Dotted bridges appear only when exactly one monthly observation is missing.
- 04Retrieval time records a provider check, not a new publication. Observation warnings use 21 days for weekly series and 120 days for monthly or bimonthly series. They are not promised release dates. A bootstrap snapshot is not a successful provider run.
A clear record matters.
